About Us

  • All about Buttercups

  • Buttercups is a privately owned nursery school situated on a private estate in Huntworth, Somerset. We have over 180 children with us, ranging from 3 months old to school ready.

In 2014, our owner Nicola opened her first nursery in Parker’s Field, North Petherton. Buttercups began by living out of a shared football clubhouse, with a capacity of 30 children amongst 2 rooms and a team of 12 staff. We built a strong community within our nursery and received immense support from the village. Due to all the support, handwork and dedication we received, we were able to make the move to our current home in Huntworth.

In early 2020 we moved to Notaro Way, Huntworth. We had decided to move due to the increasing demand for spaces at our nursery and outgrowing our space. We needed a newer, bigger environment so that every child who comes to Buttercups has the appropriate and suitable space to flourish.

In our Nursery we now have 5 rooms, each with a capacity between 18 – 32, We have 4 large gardens, with our very own mud kitchen, trampolines, roleplay areas and sandpit. We also have 4 sensory rooms and and inclusion room, when making the move this was extremely important to us, we are dedicated to providing all children with an environment that they feel safe and supported in.

By moving to Notaro Way, we were able to create our SEN department, we now have 3 SENCos on site everyday working tirelessly to identify potentially SEN children but to provide them correct support, ensure they are advocated for and push for additional support for their families.

We have a passionate, hardworking team of over 40 staff, many of which have been part of the Buttercups family since day 1. Our staff go through continuous training, with many holding several additional qualifications than necessary.

  • At Buttercups Nursery School, we are passionate about following the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and supporting children to become confident, capable, and independent learners. Through play-based learning, meaningful experiences, and nurturing relationships, we help children develop across all seven areas of learning and development, building the foundations they need for future success.

I am incredibly proud not only of our amazing team of practitioners but also of our supportive and dedicated management team. Together, we share the same vision and values, always placing the needs and best interests of our children and families at the heart of everything we do. We believe that strong partnerships with families are fundamental to children’s learning, development, and wellbeing. At Buttercups, we have a genuine open-door policy. Parents, carers, grandparents, siblings, and extended family members are always welcomed into our setting and encouraged to talk to us about any aspect of their child’s development, family life, or wellbeing. We believe that by working together, we can provide the best possible support for every child and their family.

Each month, we host a Coffee and Chat Morning, creating an opportunity for parents and carers to take some valuable time for themselves within their busy schedules. These sessions provide a welcoming space to connect with others, share experiences, access support, and build relationships within our nursery community.

Buttercups Nursery School is more than just a nursery, it is a community where every child and every family matters. We recognise that when we support the whole family unit, children thrive. We take the time to listen, understand, and respond to the individual needs of those in our care, ensuring everyone feels valued, respected, and included.

Our nurturing environment encourages curiosity, creativity, resilience, and a love of learning. We celebrate every child’s uniqueness and work closely with families to ensure children feel valued, supported, and inspired throughout their early years journey.

Together with our wonderful team, we are committed to helping every child reach their full potential and creating positive foundations that will support them throughout their lives. We look forward to welcoming you and your family into the Buttercups community.
